What do you like about Chiswick Dojo?
Richard Sensei has decades of experience, reaching back to his time training in Japan. He passes on this experience with an amazing level of commitment. His training is thoughtful and informative. He is able to pass on the basics and also go into incredible detail. I'm still positively challenged in every session.
I really like the feel of the Dojo. We train in a serious but supportive and friendly atmosphere. It's hard training but not macho and people leave their egos at the door. We are a friendly and supportive Dojo.

What have you got from training Shorinji Kempo?
I started training after being mugged. I was looking for a self defence system. Shorinji Kempo gave me that. But quickly that became less important. It was replaced by a fascination with the beauty and intricacy of the moves and techniques.
Kempo puts a weight on partner training. When you do work really well with someone it’s a fantastic feeling. Learning and growing together is so much more positive than ‘beating’ someone, which is very temporary.

It’s a friendly and welcoming Dojo with people of all ages and abilities but a high ratio of black belts for expert tuition. The Dojo has given me self-confidence, fitness, friendship & some really practical self-defence techniques. It’s a great place to learn and grow.
